One $3 air plant purchased at my favorite little shop, Tom's, the last time my darling dear brother and I went there. The back outdoor area of Tom's is a small nursery run by his wife. I had no air plant experience. Vicki told me to just soak them in water for 5 - 10 minutes, once a week in winter, more often in summer. I follow her instructions, soaking them every Saturday. That's it. They're the most amazing plant I've ever met.
I started out with one, pulled it apart at the small end, meaning to only break off one section as an experiment, to see if I could multiply my supply on my own. To my distress, five pieces came off. I thought I'd ruined it. As you can see, it all worked out happily. My one $3 plant is now six plants, and the mother plant could easily give me a few more. They grow surprisingly fast.
Our family room mantle is sporting the baby air plants at the moment. I stuck the tiniest one in a piece of driftwood (pictured above), two others on each side.
One of the paintings my grandmother gave me hangs above the family room mantle. I love it so much... I highly recommend the air plant. They really are the coolest looking plant, and you can stick them anywhere: in driftwood or seashells, on a favorite plate, in a bowl, the options are endless. Before long, I'll have a house full of air plants...yay!
I hope you're having a fabulous Sunday, sweet friends. Today is so springlike, I'm fairly giddy with the intensity of it. R and the boy have run off to purchase some tomato plants. The boy has a little raised bed veggie garden in the back. Which is sort of ironic as he's not a fan of veggies....someday I'm certain that will change. In the meantime, R and I thoroughly enjoy the vegetables his little garden produces.
