Romance is Alive and Well

A romantic husband purchased this cowl last week.
He wrote me a lovely little note.
His thirteenth anniversary is coming up,
and he wanted a traditional gift for his beloved.
Lace is the traditional gift for the thirteenth.
He chose this lace pattern cowl.

Stories like this are what make my work so very rewarding.
I tied a special piece of white vintage lace onto this cowl before sending it off.
Just a little extra bit of romance for his wife.
One can never have too much romance,
don't you agree?

I know of one woman in Canada who will feel very loved
on her thirteenth wedding anniversary.

Thank you for stopping by, dear hearts...
xoxo

This and That

Hello, dear hearts!

 Antler Brooch F11

I'm creating a new line of neckdresses.
The line is named after my favorite road,
Route 395.
Coming soon to Fringe!

I've been working on some new items for Fringe Home,
including wall hangings.

Beyond the Pines Scarf coming soon to Fringe.
Antler Brooch sold separately.

A work in progress that I'm so very excited about.
Inspired partly by my love of books and partly by my Pulitzer Prize Reading List.

This is an example of what a typical morning looks like around here. A gathering of items to be made, photographed, listed. Speaking of lists, that clipboard has a very long list of ideas!

I have been busy creating new Fringe designs and trying to stay cool in this miserable SoCal heatwave we're having. Not much luck with the staying cool part as we don't have air conditioning but lots of luck with my designs! I will be listing new pieces in the shop as soon as possible, I even have a new line of necklaces, which I am calling "neckdresses". My brilliant brother came up with that term because they remind him of headdresses. It's perfect. He's such a super talented smarty!

Some items are finding new homes before I even have a chance to list, like Antler Brooch F11 (shown in first photo).

I wanted to let you know that things are hopping here at Fringe headquarters so stay tuned...*wink*

Thank you for stopping by!
And thank you for being you...
xo

Cold Comfort...

My latest addition to
Fringe AW 2011.

A tribute to one of my favorite movies
(and book, of course),
Cold Comfort Farm.

“It was winter.
The grimmest hour of the darkest day of the year.
The Golden Orb had almost disappeared behind the interlacing fingers of the hawthorn.”
~ Flora, Cold Comfort Farm

{Sometimes when I've finished a piece,
the name just leaps out at me.
This was one of those pieces,
and one of those times.}

More new pieces arriving
(almost) daily.

Stay tuned...

Much love!

Personalized Fringe...

.

This has been the summer of custom orders at Fringe.
I've been quite surprised by them.
Some from brand new, delightful clients.
One from a cherished client of more than 3 years.

I know that in the handmade world
custom orders can sometimes inspire apprehension.
Some artists have unpleasant experiences.

I have to say,
I've been the luckiest girl.
My custom order clients
are exceptional
and very, very special.

I love to create a piece
that has a specific purpose.
Usually for an occasion,
it adds a twist to my usual process
of creating.

It's an honor for me
to be chosen as the one to create
such a personal, important piece.

I find the most rewarding part of a custom order
to be the friendships I have formed.
Yarn can truly weave a friendship.

Here are some examples of
what I've been working on
the past few weeks.

Out of these creations,
relationships were formed
feelings were shared
hearts swelled
smiles grew.

Lipstick red luxury shrug with
two creamy rose brooches.
Butter soft yarn.

Vintage glass beads
embellish these rose brooches.

Two extra oversized cowls.

One of my circle brooches.

Made with love.

What I'm currently working on.
This yarn is being transformed into a luxury shrug.
It will be accompanied by two rose brooches.
In red, with spring green leaves.

I still found time to work on this little tidbit.
It's going to be a gift for a dear friend.
Is it possible to have a dear friend whom you've never met?
Absolutely!
Here, I'm working with
vintage cotton thread and a vintage hook.

This is going to be a new luxury piece for the shop.
Wait until you see the brooch I'm going to make for it!
Yippee!

So there you have it, dear ones.
I haven't been goofing off.
I've been working like a fiend, actually.

When there are custom orders,
it's not so easy to list new items in my shop.
As always,
I have a long, long list
of future projects.
Now all I need to do is
figure out how to make time stand still...

I hope you're having a beautiful day
in your little corner of the world!
Much love...

Sunshine. Yellow. Happiness.

.

{yellow = happiness}

Ron brought me these yellow mums for our Easter gathering.
They have been keeping me company outside this week,
while I worked under a beautiful blue sky.

Those brilliant yellow mums
inspired me.
I took out my crochet hook,
my sunny yellow yarn,
and pretended to be Mother Nature.

I love my little fiber mum.
I'm going to make an armful of them
for a special project.
Yes, indeedy.

I have many, many new items in my shop.
Here are a sampling of some of the yellows.
Vibrant,
rich,
warm,
cool,
happiness for your neck.

I hope you have a beautiful weekend, darling dears.
What are your plans?

Here we have a weekend ruled by the boy.
Saturday he has a buddy coming over.
Sunday the boy, his friend, and Ron are going paint balling.
You know what that means...
I have a chunk of time all to myself!
Yippee skippee!
Let's see what kind of mischief I can get into...

Thank you so much for visiting.
You're a (golden) ray of sunshine in my life...
xo

.

A world of soft and pretty...

.

{flowers, feathers and ruffles...oh my!}

Hello, dear hearts.
How is your week going for you?
Beautifully, I hope!

Thus far, my week (+ last week + the week before that +...)
has been awash in colors.
Soft and gentle.
Brave and bright.
Clear and saturated.
Understated and muted.
And, of course,
textures.

Not only are my waking hours spent
thinking of colors...
Many of my sleeping hours are spent
dreaming of colors.

In other words,
I'm in my particular kind of heaven!

Working on my
soon to be revealed
Fringe Spring/Summer Collection
has been a flurry and a whirlwind
contrasted with
slowly and carefully.

I find that I alternate between several emotions
while working...

I'm exhilarated and thrilled,
completely joyous,
 and my heart races
with
all the inspiration and ideas.
They flow like water these days.

On the other hand,
My heart is fairly aching with the realization
that I only have so much time
each day to work.

It's frustrating.
Sometimes maddening.
Sometimes discouraging.
Mostly because the ideas come
fast and furious,
and I'm just one girl with only two hands,
and many commitments.
Yet I want to make it all.
Right now.
There are some ideas in my sketchbook
that have been patiently waiting for me
for months.

Thank goodness for my sketchbook.
Sometimes ideas come one right after the other,
if I don't write them down, they're gone...
to make room for the next thought or vision.

You may wonder what inspired my upcoming
Spring/Summer Collection.
That's a loaded question, yet
it's at the same time quite simple.

I am inspired by nature, mostly.
Music comes in at a close second.

Regarding my musical inspirations.
I will let you in on a little secret.
I'm creating an entire line
around music.
Music which has deeply touched me.
That's all I can tell you at the moment,
but you will see what I mean in the (hopefully) near future.

Now.
Back to my Spring/Summer Collection
and what inspired it.
Nature was the greatest player.

Nature always inspires me,
and if you've been following me here
you already know that.

Just a trip to my backyard will bring about
wonderful, glorious inspiration...

Just look at all the beauty!
It's all around us.
Vibrant color.
Texture.
Contrast.

These elements inspired many of the shapes and colors of
Fringe Spring/Summer.
As does the scenery I absorb on my every day walks.

I'm also very much inspired by the visions of
who will wear a particular piece.
What type of woman.
How I envision a certain design should be worn.
I picture the entire setting around a Fringe piece.

And the colors.
Colors are so very important.
The color of a Fringe piece will dictate
the entire mood of an outfit.

And so you see,
I have many aspects to my creative process
and the resulting line of
Fringe Spring/Summer
will reflect them all.
They will be little pieces of me.
What I see and feel.
How I want to make each person
who owns a Fringe design
feel confident, beautiful, happy
and above all,
loved.

Thank you so much for spending part of your day with me.
Your interest in my work means more than I can express to you.
It's the greatest inspiration of all...

Much love!

A touch of spring at Fringe...

.

Hello, sweet friends and welcome!  How is your week going?
Things are busy and great here.

Except for Ron having a nasty cold.
He's not a good patient.
He won't take his medicine.
He won't rest.
He's a bit of a stinker.
There. I said it.

On a brighter note, our peach tree is beginning to bloom.
Yay!

Also, two more bright spots in my week are of the wearable fiber art variety.
A new Fringe design that I'm so happy about.

The Brave Feather Lariats.
Perfect for the softening weather.
Lovely, happy colors (more coming soon).
Two sizes to choose from.
Both are long and swingy, sexy and fun.

Go ahead.
Be brave.
Catch someone's eye...

A preview...

.

Hello, dear ones.  Happy Friday to you all!

I am in the process of adding many new pieces to my shop.
Some of them are live and available at Fringe as of yesterday.
You can check them out here.

Other designs (like the first two shown below), will be listed soon.
Later today, if all goes according to schedule.
It truly is quite a time-consuming process to list items.
So please bear with me...

The first two pieces listed are one-of-a-kind.
I do so love them!
We must love our creations, otherwise there's no passion in our work.

When these pieces go, so will a little piece of my heart.
I am so happy when someone feels something for my work .
A feeling so strong that they want it for their own.
I envision a piece of my soul arriving at their doorstep.
Knowing it will be loved and cherished, makes me feel loved and cherished.

A little sneak peek.
Some of what I will be listing very soon.
There are indeed more items that I still need to photograph and fuss over.

I hope you enjoyed this little snippet of coming attractions....
I will continue to post previews of the new designs here,
as they prepare for their debuts.

Have a beautiful Friday, darlings.
Thank you so much for visiting.
You make my heart sing....xo

Coming soon...

Hello, dear ones.  How are you today?

I've been very busy getting things ready for a shop update.
Here is a snippet , a sneak peek, of what will be listed in my shop...

There are even more new pieces, if you can believe it.
I just simply ran out of time with photos vs. lighting today.
Which means the rest of the designs will be a surprise.

I have had the most wonderful time creating these pieces.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at them.

As always, I so appreciate the fact that you take time out of your day to visit me.
Thank you so much...xo

Ron update:
His flights out of Montreal were cancelled due to crazy weather, poor guy.
He has rescheduled flights for tomorrow,
rerouting through New York instead of Chicago.
With any luck he'll be on his way to Paris this time tomorrow.
Fingers and toes crossed!

I hope you are safe and snug in your cozy home.
